Instructor: Mauricio Rico has always had a love for plants, and terrariums are a special passion.  He loves that each container is a mini-ecosystem and that a well-designed terrarium requires only minimal care.  Anyone—even those with a “black thumb”—can own a growing, thriving terrarium!  Mauricio also finds spreading the knowledge and love of plants to be rewarding.

Mauricio’s professional journey began with an elective horticulture class at Tarrant County College.  This motivated him to pursue Horticulture Science at Tarleton State University. At Tarleton, Mauricio’s interests shifted from landscaping plants to tropical house plants.  As part of a senior project, he created a horticulture business that specialized in terrariums.  Mauricio’s project was so popular among his classmates, he realized it could be a successful small business.  In 2019, Mauricio graduated with a BS in Horticultural Science and established Rico’s Terrariums.  You can find Rico’s Terrariums—in small and large containers—at local farmers markets or by custom ordering from Mauricio.  Connect with Mauricio on Facebook “Rico’s Terrariums” and on Instagram @ricosterrariums.

Location: BRIT building – Park in the Main Lot.
