Our adult education program is supported by our partners at the Tarrant County Master Gardeners Association, Fort Worth Audubon Society, Fort Worth Garden Club, and Fort Worth Bonsai Society.
Registration for adult education classes closes 2 business days prior to the event. This allows time to determine if we have met the minimum registrations required and then contact guests with either class details or cancellation notices. Calling all Art Adventurers! Engage with the natural world by experimenting with a variety of media and techniques. These monthly classes are appropriate for all ability and experience levels and promote enjoyment over perfection. Enjoy playing with art materials, learning new processes and having fun with our instructor’s open-ended, judgment-free style of art-making! Registration includes Garden admission for the day—we encourage you to explore the Garden before class for inspiration.
Discover the possibilities of altered books — an earth-friendly art approach that focuses on creative reuse, upcycling and reimagining materials! Bring a retired book to transform into a collection of expressive botanical artworks. We encourage you to register for multiple classes and bring the same book to continue altering. In September, we’ll cover different ways to press flowers and leaves and incorporate them in your book.

Our award-winning artist instructor will start with a demonstration, then answer questions and provide tips and one-on-one attention throughout a free-drawing session. Tai Chi is an ancient practice consisting of low-impact, slow-motion movement. The movements are intentional and meditative, improving muscle strength, flexibility, balance and aerobic conditioning. In this fun, no-judgement series, you will explore Tai Chi poses – known traditionally as “forms”—and learn to incorporate gentle movement into your life.
Over the course of six Monday afternoon sessions, you will learn 24 Tai Chi forms. When weather permits, sessions will be held in the Japanese Garden’s Pavilion surrounded by Japanese Maples. Registration includes Garden admission on session dates—we encourage you to explore the Garden before and after each session!

This full-body meditative practice uses highly resonant music to create a soothing feeling of immersion. Surrounded by the serene beauty of nature, local intuitive sound healer Sara Southerland will use her voice and crystal singing bowls to guide you through a journey of relaxation and renewal. Forest Bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is the deliberate practice of immersion in nature using mindfulness and the senses. This practice originated in Japan and allows the body, mind and spirit to relax and rejuvenate surrounded by the healing powers of nature. We begin the class by discussing the guiding principles of shinrin-yoku that enable us to soak up the natural world around us; then each learner will enjoy individual time practicing their Forest Bathing in our tranquil Japanese Garden before reconvening to share experiences. Bring your camera to the Garden to capture the beauty of monarch butterflies as they pass through along a major migration corridor heading south for the winter. Local professional photographer Edgar Miller will provide expert tips on the best techniques and settings to snap great photographs of butterflies in their natural habitats and provide in-the-moment support as you seek out migrating monarchs and any other photogenic pollinators spotted along the way. You will leave with increased skills and confidence photographing these beautiful creatures in the Garden and beyond!
