Creative Art with Olivia – Narcissus Flowers

Registration for this event is now closed. We hope to see you next month!

Each month, participants will discover how to use gouache paint to capture light and shadows on certain flowers. These sessions use a more abstract approach, focusing attention on color mixing, and capturing 3-dimensionality through observational techniques that explore tints and shades. Paint, brushes, paper, and reference photos will be provided, along with step-by-step tutorials on rendering these beautiful flowers on paper. You will go home with 3 or more small paintings on paper along with instructions on how to find and purchase the materials and media should you want to practice on your own.

This month, we will be painting the stems and petals of narcissus flowers.

Instructor:  Olivia Garcia-Hassell uses the “handle” The OG Art Teacher. She has been teaching art to various ages and abilities since 2009. She thinks that art is for everyone and that anyone can create art. She believes that the process of creation is meditative, which is an excellent activity for our brains and hearts. She loves to paint with watercolors and draw in pencil. Her favorite subjects are animals, nature, portraits of people and pets, cars, horses, raccoons, dinosaurs, and anything someone can give her a reference photo for. Currently, she teaches private lessons to all ages and abilities and takes commissions for watercolors and drawings. She loves to take walks on the Trinity, in the Botanic Garden, at the Nature Center, around Benbrook Lake, on the trails of Gateway Park, and at Marion Samson Park. I am learning how to longboard, wearing a ski helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. At home, she has a big garden with tomatoes, jalapenos, squash, cucumbers, dill, oregano, basil, and other herbs and has a pet tortoise, a rabbit, a dog, six hens, and one rooster. Her art studio is in her garage, which is where she teaches virtual private art lessons and works on art commissions. Her website is theogartteacher.com and email address is TheOGartTeacher@gmail.com
