Begonia Immersion Day

The Mae Blanton Dallas Fort Worth chapter of the American Begonia Society and Glenn Dickerson, FWBG Curator, will host an open house in the Begonia Collection at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. You will be able to view the largest collection of begonias in North America. Our collecFon is a Nationally Accredited Plant Collection by the American Public Gardens Association.

Where: Dorthea Leonhardt Lecture Hall inside the Garden Center (3220 Botanic Garden Blvd. Fort Worth, TX 76107)

Schedule:
2 – 4 p.m. – Open house in the Begonia Collection Greenhouse
6 – 7  p.m. – Dr. Mark Tebbitt presentation, In Search of Wild Begonia: Travels in Andean South America*
7 – 8  p.m. – Reception in the Lecture Link (Area just outside the Lecture Hall)

*Dr. Mark Tebbitt, Begonia Researcher, Professor of Biology at Penn West University in Pennsylvania will speak on Andean begonias. Dr. Tebbitt’s Summary of Talk: “The talk will describe my research trips to Andean South America to study begonias. Between 2012 and 2019 I conducted eight expeditions spanning four countries and much of the length of the Andean Mountain Chain where begonias occur. On these trips I encountered well over 100 kinds of begonias, including many that were new to science. I will highlight the major discoveries and some of my adventures from these plant collections trips. In the process, I will illustrate the amazing diversity of begonias found in this beatiful part of the world.”
