Beginner Birding

Registration for this class is now closed. We hope to see you for another Botany & Nature class soon!

Do you enjoy watching birds and want to take it to the next level? Birds are everywhere, but it can be challenging to find them. Where should you go? How do you know what you’re looking at? Are there any apps for that? (Yes.) Do you need special gear? (No, but it can make things easier.) If you’re interested in furthering your birding journey, this class will teach you all you need to know to venture forth with confidence.

The first part of the class will meet indoors to discuss equipment, birding ethics, helpful apps, Q&A and more. Weather permitting, we will conclude with a short walk around the grounds to put your new birding knowledge and skills into practice. After class, explore the Gardens at your leisure; registration includes Garden admission for the day.

Saturday, September 9 (8:00 AM-9:30 AM)

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, September 6

$35 /Non-Member or $30 /Member

Materials: Please bring any birding materials you are currently using; binoculars, bird identification field guides, etc.

Instructor: Tom Haase is a Texas transplant who started his birding journey later in life. Born and raised in Chicago, he fell in love with birds and birding while living and teaching in Minnesota. In 2014, Tom became a North Central Texas Master Birder. He is currently the Vice President of Field Trips for the Fort Worth Audubon Society (FWAS) where he coordinates trips and local walks.

He loves that birding can be done anywhere and by anyone. You don’t need to go somewhere exotic or be a member of a special organization to enjoy watching, identifying and tracking local birds. Connect with Tom via the Fort Worth Audubon Society at fwas.org.

Location: Check-in at BRIT building – Park in Main Lot.

**An email with program details will be sent to all registrants the day after the registration deadline. To help avoid this important communication being mislabeled as junk mail, please whitelist the fwbg.org domain with your email provider.
