August Lunchtime Lecture: Curating and Digitizing the Sherwin Carlquist Collection

“Musings on Curating and Digitizing the Sherwin Carlquist Collection & Natural History Museum Collections Career Paths”

Hear from Librarian Ana Niño about BRIT Library and California Botanic Garden’s National Science Foundation-funded joint digitization project, “Advancing the Sherwin Carlquist Collection”!  These two institutions are collaborating to digitize the biological and archival materials of the late botanist, Sherwin Carlquist, and to then link these disparate collection materials to one another.  Niño will also discuss the different types of career opportunities and roles available in natural history collections.

About the presenter:

Ana Niño has waltzed between various types of libraries and archives for about 10 years, and she joined the BRIT staff in November 2021 as the BRIT Librarian, managing library, archival, and art acquisitions.  Ana attended Cornell University, where she studied Science & Technology Studies, and later earned her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas.

This 1-hr seminar will include a short Q&A session after the lecture. The lecture will be held in-person at BRIT in the Commons and will also have a streaming option. To join us virtually please use the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83758641981
