Armchair Botany Forum: Find the Parts! Native Wildflower Morphology

This event has now passed. You can view a recording of this meeting on our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/oMx7jhuwl5w

Our Armchair Botany events are forums for presentation and discussion about botany, herbarium specimens, and collections – and an invitation to get involved!

Join us on Thursday, May 2nd at 12 PM CT via Zoom for a presentation by BRIT Philecology Herbarium Director, Tiana Rehman, called Find the Parts: Looking at Floral Morphology of Some of our Native Spring Flowers.

This will be a review of the basic parts of a flower, then applying this knowledge to investigate a few of the native species currently flowering in Dallas-Fort Worth area. Basic floral morphology is often taught with the dissection of Alstroemeria flowers (availably for $5-$7 a bunch at your local grocery store, also sold as Peruvian lilies), so if you happen have these in hand, that’d be great to follow along! A local, native, alternative is an evening primrose flower (which are abundant in DFW right now): Oenothera speciosa.

This will be a conversational style presentation, with PowerPoint slides for illustration.
