Our Armchair Botany events are forums for presentation and discussion about botany, herbarium specimens, and collections – and an invitation to get involved!

Join us Thursday August 10th at noon via zoom, for this month’s forum the Collections & Conservation interns will be presenting on their summer floristic survey of the Silphium Prairie at Rock Creek Ranch Park in Fort Worth. In response to the rapid urbanization of Fort Worth prairies, this study utilizes iNaturalist and herbarium vouchers to investigate floristic composition, richness, and nativity at this site.

We’ll start off this forum by opening the floor for any comments and/or questions folks have about our current Crowdsourcing project. Then we’ll jump into the discussion about our main topic for the meeting. We’ll end with more Q&A and a guided “transcription blitz” where we’ll show you how to pull data from herbarium specimen images on your own time, to make your own discoveries and help us bring these collections to light.
