Heirloom Plants

An heirloom plant, heirloom variety, or heritage plant describes open-pollinated fruits, vegetables and flowers that were introduced at least 50 years ago. These plants are heirlooms of an older time (hence the name) and come with long histories and have been grown for many years, passed down from generation to generation.

In this class we examine a wide variety of heirloom and heritage plants. Learners will research plant profiles including plant identification, flavor notes, and growing guidelines needed to successfully grow heirloom plants. Learners will participate with hands-on activities.
