Plant Diversity and Genome Resources
How many plant species are there? This can be a difficult question to answer, but according to The World Flora Online there are approximately 16,000 genera of vascular plants on Earth. GGI–Gardens uses this number for our goals tracking toward collection and preservation. The number of plant species with a sequenced genome is much less, however, due to the complexity of most plant genomes.
