Science and Conservation
As Vice President of Research and Conservation at FWBG, Dr. Peter Fritsch is charged with the oversight, representation, and development of BRIT’s research and conservation programs in botanical science. In addition, Dr. Fritsch conducts his research program on plant diversity, comparative morphology, and biogeography, with a focus on the heath family (Ericaceae) and its relatives. He also continues his passion for biodiversity, conservation, and capacity-building work both nationally and internationally. Current projects include National Science Foundation funding for specimen digitization across 40 collections in the Texas and Oklahoma Regional Consortium of Herbaria (TORCH), a biodiversity survey of plants and lichens in the Philippines, and an investigation into the phylogenomics and evolution of North American blueberries (Vaccinium sect. Cyanococcus). [insert paragraph here] Dr. Fritsch serves on the board of the Natural Science Collections Alliance, the Steering Committee for TORCH, and various committees of the American Society of Plant Taxonomists and Botanical Society of America.
