Learning & Engagement

Amy Hollenshead brings over 20 years of experience in public education, including eight years in career and technical education, where she championed innovative learning pathways for students. For the past nine years, Amy, fondly known as “Outdoor Amy” served as the Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) Coordinator for Northwest ISD, where she developed interdisciplinary experiences for students to engage in nature and discover phenomena, at a 200-acre site dedicated to experiential learning.

Amy specializes in bringing science literacy to life through environmental and agricultural awareness and nature-based learning. Her dedication to TEKS-aligned program development and inquiry-based education empowers teachers and students to engage deeply with the natural world and develop a lasting appreciation for its complexities.

As Vice President of Learning and Engagement at FWBG, Amy intends to lead with a vision to inspire curiosity, foster lifelong learning, and create meaningful connections between people and plants. Her expertise and passion for environmental education shine through in every initiative, from teacher professional development to immersive learning experiences.

Amy serves as a Board Member for the Texas Association for Environmental Education, where she focuses on advancing professional development for educators across the state. She is active in supporting educator development through engagement with several professional organizations, both in the formal and informal education world.

Amy finds joy in learning about prairies and insects, often spending time “mothing” on night hikes to discover the incredible diversity of moths. When she’s not exploring nature, she enjoys reading, learning, and making memories with her family.
