T’ai Chi in the Japanese Garden

Learn to reduce stress and increase your energy while surrounded by the serene beauty of the Botanic Garden’s Japanese Garden.  Students will experience basic T’ai Chi exercises, Xiang Gong Qi Gong, Five Element Qi Gong and other aspects of this ancient Chinese art.  Wear loose comfortable clothing and supportive shoes with flat soles.

Hatha Yoga: Introduction

Students will learn relaxation, complete breathing, and proper body alignment while developing strength and flexibility through basic yoga postures.  The class will be suitable for newcomers to yoga as well as offering a challenge to people who already practice yoga.   Please bring your own mat to class and wear clothing that allows freedom of movement.

Stained Glass Window

Illuminate your home and life! Learn the art of mosaics using stained glass and glass baubles to create your original mosaic glass window.  Select your pattern from original designs by your instructor, internationally recognized mosaic artist, Tina McIntire–or design your own! In this class you will cut, glue and grout your way to a beautiful light reflective mosaic window. Tuition includes $75 supply fee.

New Garden Art

Create a beautiful and colorful mosaic butterfly bath to add color to any garden or home.  All materials will be provided-you bring the creativity! Course fee includes $75 supply fee.

Garden Art Mosaic – Stepping Stones

Choose a design available or create your own!  A colorful way to welcome visitors or decorate your garden and even begin a new path one step at a time.  Course fee includes $60 supply fee.

Quit Smoking in the Japanese Garden

One of the best places to quit smoking is the Japanese Garden. The best time to quit, when you think about it, is now. This smoker-friendly class is designed for those who don’t want to quit but know they should. Using unique methods that are part of learning the ancient art of T’ai Chi, the smoker will learn to finally overcome his or her dependence on tobacco.  Motivational strategies, relaxation exercises, and group discussion will be part of the process of pre-quitting, quitting, and post-quitting.  Techniques such as Punching Up the Yuck Factor, Lite Discipline, and Investing in Loss are intended to move the student into the nonsmoking section of life permanently.

An Annual Affair

Annuals provide the most color in your landscape during any season.  Learn which annuals – flowering and foliage- to use in each season of the year to make your landscape a real showcase.  This course will cover plant selections, light conditions, soil preparation, fertilization, water requirements, and how to use annuals in both beds and containers.

Plants that Conserve Water

Save on your water bill and reduce the demands on our precious water supplies by landscaping with plants that require less water or even live on annual rainfall alone.  Learn twelve easy tips for saving water and which native and adapted plants survive on less water in North Central Texas.  Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather since we’ll take an outside walking tour of the water conservation garden.

Residential Landscape Design

Before you delve into spring landscaping, learn the principles and elements of design that will make your landscape stand out.  In this course, you will learn how to sketch a design for your landscape and incorporate the best plant materials for north central Texas.  You will also view examples of landscape transformations that have taken place right here in Fort Worth.  Bring to the first class a copy of your plot plan, tracing paper, a #2 pencil, and a ruler

Champagne in the Garden

Enjoy a Sparkling Wine evening in the beautiful Japanese Garden.  You will learn how sparkling wines are produced and sample five from different areas of the world including Champagne, France.   Participants will receive a free admission ticket to the Botanic Garden’s Japanese Festival (April 28 – 29)! Please note: no perfume or cologne.   You must be 21 to register for this class. Tuition includes supply fee.

Happy Hour in the Japanese Garden

Leave your cares at the gate and become one with the serene surroundings of the Japanese Garden.  Most modern urbanites find the traditional meditation techniques of sitting in stillness and one point focus very difficult.  Anything can be a meditation if it disrupts our usual way of doing things.  We will practice various methods that increase our awareness, compassion and joy.  These methods include dance, laughter, catharsis, mindful walking and more.  You will leave the Garden relaxed, refreshed and closer to your true nature than when you entered.  Our aim is to discover meditation techniques that resonate in you and you will want to practice regularly outside of class.  Bring a mat with you to class.

Front Porch Citrus

Plant your own citrus grove right here in North Texas! Homegrown fresh key lime pie, orange marmalade and ice cold lemonade are just a growing season away.  This course will teach you how to grow potted citrus on the front porch or the back patio.  If you have some sun and just a little bit of room, you can grow these attractive and useful plants.  All tools and materials provided.  This class will take place at the instructor’s home in Fort Worth.  Details provided in your course confirmation.
