Japanese Garden Docent Tours

Join knowledgeable docents for a guided tour of our beautiful Japanese Garden. Enjoy lovely vistas while docents discuss our garden’s design elements, history, and the cultural significance of Japanese gardens. Observe and discuss the wonderful plants and animals that call our garden home.

Our Japanese Garden Docents are committed to providing tours that are pleasantly accessible to all our guests regardless of their level of fitness. Three levels of tours are offered. See below to find the tour suitable for you.

Ticket Pricing for all the below Japanese Garden Tours:

Tour tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance.

Pricing: All participants must purchase general admission at the price of:

FWBG Members – $0
Children, aged 5 and younger – $0
Children, ages 6 to 15 – $6
Adults, aged 16 to 64 – $12
Senior Adults, age 65 and older – $10

A private tour fee of $50 is required for every 8 guests in addition to the general admission. Full payment of general admission passes and the private tour fee(s) are due at least 2 weeks before the scheduled tour date. Tour fees are non-refundable unless requested at least 72-hours in advance of your scheduled tour date. Admission fees are non-refundable.

Groups paying for 20 or more admission tickets will receive $2 off regular admission per person.

Cancellation Policy:

We understand that plans can change unexpectedly. In the event that you need to cancel your tour, please notify us at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival to avoid losing the Docent Fee(s). If you cancel your tour within 72 hours of arrival or no show, the Docent Fee(s) will be seen as a donation to FWBG. Docent Fee(s) cannot be refunded or exchanged if cancelled within 72 hours of tour start time. We will wait 15 minutes after your start time before deeming the tour a no-show.

General Admission passes cannot be refunded but they can be exchanged for a different date.

The Japanese Garden – Full Tour

This tour is appropriate for individuals, small groups, families, or large groups of up to 48 guests. The tour lasts 60 to 90 minutes and can cover the entire garden. (Docents can modify the tour length to suit the guests needs.) The terrain is mildly uneven with moderate elevation changes and some full-flight stairs. Several opportunities to stop and simply enjoy the beauty of the garden are provided.

The Japanese Garden – Modified Tour

This tour is appropriate for individuals, small groups, families, or large groups of up to 48 guests. The tour, which can be adapted for those with limited mobility or time constraints, lasts approximately 60 to 75 minutes and covers a majority of the garden. (Docents can modify the tour based upon guests’ needs.) The terrain is slightly uneven, with some steps or changes in elevation but no full-flight stairs. There are also several opportunities to stop, sit, and simply enjoy the beauty of the garden.

The Japanese Garden – Silver Highlights Tour

This tour is appropriate for small groups only with a maximum of 12 guests. (12 guests are accommodated with two docent-led groups of up to 6 and a 15-minute staggered start.) The tour lasts 60 minutes and covers only about one-third of the garden. The pace is slow and relaxed. Guests walk no more than 1/3 of a mile with three opportunities for bench-seating rests. The terrain is mildly uneven with slight elevation changes. There is one spot with three railed steps. This spot can be avoided if needed. This tour is suitable for wheelchairs, walkers, and motorized scooters.
