¡Celebramos! A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage in Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden | Botanical Research Institute of Texas (FWBG|BRIT) invites guests to ¡Celebramos! A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage, from Sept. 15 through Nov. 7, including artistic performances and exhibitions, dining and shopping opportunities, movie showings and Día de los Muertos, Celebration of Life.

Guests will enjoy a presentation of Mexican culture through art, native plants, and garden design throughout the entire campus. “We believe that celebrations of traditions and cultural expressions create more enduring connections in our community, celebrating our diverse group of ethnicities,” said Vice President of Operations Ennis Anderson.

The celebration spanning eight weeks will feature numerous events, art exhibits, and unique new experiences for guests visiting the campus. Become a member to enjoy this Garden-wide celebration with special discounts and free admission.

EVENT SUMMARY (VISIT BRIT.ORG FOR MORE DETAILS)

Before events begin in October, visit Arte y Artesanía Botánica: Mexico’s Abiding Connection to the Natural World, an art exhibit featuring selections of craft and folk art from the Museum of the Americas. [Located inside BRIT building, Madeline R. Samples Exhibit Hall, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays.]

Weekend 1: October 1-3

To kick off Celebramos, members and VIP guests are invited to attend an artist night featuring Juan Velazquez. Mariposa Market, a local artisan market, will be held October 2 where ballet folklorico dancing and food trucks will await guests.

Weekend 2: October 8-10

Starting the weekend off with a Hispanic themed After Hours in the Garden, guests can enjoy several unique events this weekend. From shopping in our Fall Plant Sale to dressing up as Frida for a Fridafest Children’s Afternoon, performances from the Fort Worth Opera and Margo Dean School of Ballet Flamenco, and Fridafest “An Evening at Casa Azul” adult event.

Weekend 3: October 15-17

Families are welcome to attend our family movie night featuring Coco, as well as an Education Day with several activities throughout the day, including a Storytime, a documentary screening, and an artist talk with Juan Velazquez.

Weekend 4: October 22-24

Guests interested in a unique shopping experience are invited to our Hispanic Artisans’ Faire, with over 60 vendors throughout the Garden.

Weekend 5: October 29-31

Join us for Dia de los Muertos, Celebration of Life at FWBG | BRIT. Purchase tickets here.

Weekend 6: November 5-7

Join us for Tacos in the Garden to end our Hispanic Heritage celebration with a bang – this street taco festival will include 15-30 taco vendors and margaritas.

Glimpse the Garden’s history through BRIT Herbarium specimens

Today, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) are a single organization, but that is a recent development. BRIT and the Garden combined forced in October 2020 after many decades of independent operation. However, the Garden and BRIT worked together for years before the merger. One aspect of that long-term partnership is preserved in specimens in the BRIT Herbarium that were collected in the Garden.
