As Vice President of Research, Dr. Peter Fritsch is charged with the oversight, representation, and development of FWBG|BRIT’s various research programs in botanical science. In addition, Dr. Fritsch conducts his research program on plant diversity, comparative morphology, and biogeography, with a focus on the heath family (Ericaceae) and its relatives. He also continues his passion for biodiversity, conservation, and capacity-building work both nationally and internationally. Current projects include National Science Foundation funding for specimen digitization across 40 collections in the Texas and Oklahoma Regional Consortium of Herbaria (TORCH), a biodiversity survey of plants and lichens in the Philippines, and an investigation into the phylogenomics and evolution of North American blueberries (Vaccinium sect. Cyanococcus).

Dr. Fritsch is currently a member of the NSC Alliance Board of Directors.
