Our Armchair Botany events are forums for presentation and discussion about botany, herbarium specimens, and collections – and an invitation to get involved!
Join us Thursday, November 9th at noon via zoom, for this month’s forum presented by Herbarium Director Tiana Rehman as she provides a behind-the-scenes look at the 4th Philippines expedition of the Plant Discovery in the Southern Philippines project, which took place in January 2023. You’ll get a deep dive into the processes and tales of a scientific botanical foray in the Philippines and hear about how this current project fits in to the longer history of the Philecology Herbarium’s involvement in documenting the biodiversity of the Philippines. Expect lots of photographs and stories, and an opportunity for discussions and questions.
We’ll start off this forum by opening the floor for any comments and/or questions folks have about our current Crowdsourcing project. Then we’ll jump into the discussion about our main topic for the meeting. We’ll end with more Q&A and a guided “transcription blitz” where we’ll show you how to pull data from herbarium specimen images on your own time, to make your own discoveries and help us bring these collections to light.
