Cactus Garden Cut-outs

Cancelled due to low registration.

Matisse loved spending time in the garden. Some of his most celebrated and well-known works were created in his later years when he began producing what is now known as his cut-outs. In fact, many of Matisse’s masterpieces were originally cut and pinned directly onto his walls to bring this new art garden inside to enjoy. Join Artist, Art & Environmental Educator, Juliet Whitsett as she shares her current art series Threatened Texas, then guides you in some serious Matisse-inspired, cut-out art-play experiments to bring your own garden closer to us as we await a warmer season. This cut-out workshop will be dedicated to one of Texas’ most resilient and striking plants, the cactus!

Instructor: Juliet Whitsett is an Art Educator with a Master’s Degree in Community-Based Arts Education from the University of Texas-Austin and Undergraduate in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has designed arts and environmental education programs for public institutions such as the High Line, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the Thinkery, Austin Discovery School and private organizations domestically and internationally. After her children started school, Juliet transitioned to teach young children, teens and families out of her home studio. She has been doing that for over 5 lovely years now.
