Japanese Garden Weddings

Small weddings (25 people or less) may be held at the Hill Arbor, Waterfall Overlook or Mikoshi Deck for $350.00 for two hours. This rate does NOT apply to weddings in the Pavilion or on the Moon Viewing Deck.
Hill Arbor – This intimate spot overlooks Moon Bridge and the Upper and Middle Pools. The Japanese inspired shelter gives a sense of enclosure while being outdoors.
Waterfall Overlook – This small open area looks out on a large tranquil pool with a small island in the foreground and a large waterfall in the background. A beautiful spot for your wedding photos.

Weddings and receptions may also be held in the Japanese Garden Pavilion or on the Moon Viewing Deck.

* The following items are included in these fees: one Botanic Garden
staff person, one police officer, and Bride’s room.
The Gardens Restaurant is the caterer for the Japanese Garden.
Alcohol permitted if purchased through The Gardens Restaurant. One police officer for each 125 guests is required if alcohol is served.
DJs, small ensembles and music permitted as long as these are not disruptive to the garden atmosphere.

What if it rains?
Alternate sites are available in case of rain. Ask about them when you schedule your wedding.

Can I decorate the area?
Freestanding decorations may be used with administrative approval. No objects may be driven into the ground.
Japanese Garden - Approved decorations may be used on the Pavilion and Moon Viewing Deck.
May I bring chairs?
No. Chairs are available for rent for $5.00 each. Your wedding attendant will set them up for you according to your specifications and will store them when your event is over.
Japanese Garden - the number of chairs is restricted on the Hill Arbor (10),Waterfall Overlook (10), Meditation Garden (10), and the Mary Kay Tea House (10). There are no chair restrictions on the Pavilion or the Moon Viewing Deck.
How long do I have access to the wedding site?
You have the site for a two (2) hour time period. Most people have the wedding ceremony 30 minutes into this time period to allow guests time to gather beforehand and leave afterwards.
Japanese Garden - The rental time period in the Japanese Garden is six hours.

Is the wedding site blocked off or guarded?
Yes. A wedding attendant will block off your wedding area during the time you have reserved it. The public does have access to other areas of the Garden so you may see or hear them. Any serious problems may be reported to the Garden's security officers.

How far in advance may I book my wedding?
A year in advance.
Japanese Garden - You may book eighteen months in advance.
Is there a place where I can change clothes?
Yes. You may rent the Bride's room at the Botanic Garden Center for $50.00 for a two-hour period.
Japanese Garden - Use of the Bride's Room is included in the rental of the Pavilion and the Moon Viewing Deck.
May I have my reception at the Garden as well?
Yes. You may rent space in the Botanic Garden Center as available or in the Gardens Restaurant.
Japanese Garden - You may have your reception on the Pavilion.
May I have music during my ceremony?
Non-amplified music or music provided by live musicians is acceptable as long as the volume does not disturb other patrons.
Japanese Garden - In the Japanese Garden, music is permitted as long as the atmosphere of the Garden is maintained.
May I have dancing at my reception?
Dancing is permitted in the Garden Center if the appropriate sized room is rented.
Japanese Garden - Dancing is permitted at the Japanese Garden on the Pavilion and the Moon Viewing Deck.
Is alcohol permitted at my reception?
Wine and champagne are permitted with no further action by the renter. If you wish to serve any other type of alcohol you must request a waiver from the Department Director.
Japanese Garden - In the Japanese Garden, alcohol must be purchased through The Gardens restaurant.
